CLEARFIELD – A convicted sex offender accused of failing to register waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Robert Jackson of Hyde faces a count of failure to comply with sexual offender registration requirements.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the Lawrence Township Police Department received a call from the US Marshal’s Office regarding Jackson on May 6. The call indicated that Jackson had had failed to register under the Megan’s Law act. The agent told police that the Marshal’s Office gets involved when an offender has been traveling across state lines unregistered.
Officer Jon Walker then contacted the Megan’s Law Division of the Pennsylvania State Police. They indicated to Walker that Jackson had failed to register a change of address. They were under the impression that he was still living in Hyde. The state police then told Walker they would like to have Jackson arrested. Since Jackson was in Lawrence Township, it was up to the LTPD to arrest him.
Jackson was located by another office on South Second Street and brought back to the station where Walker questioned him. According to the affidavit he told Walker that he did no know he was supposed to register every time he moves and that he has dyslexia. He stated that he did register last year, but was unsure as to when and who he talked to. Jackson said that in November he traveled to Boston to visit a family member. He stayed there for two months. When he came back in January, he spent that month and February at a residence on Spruce Street in Philipsburg. He told police that he was back and forth between Philipsburg and Clearfield and that he also spent March in Philipsburg. Jackson said that in April he moved back to Hyde and that a week prior to being brought in he got a residence on South Second Street.
