Thomas Raymond Sankey, 93, of Lanse went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born March 30, 1923 in Warriors Mark, he was the son of the late Raymond Thomas and Julia Dukes Voyzey Sankey of Osceola Mills.
On Nov. 4, 1989 at the Lanse Evangelical Free Church, he married Betty Chilcote Sankey. She survives in Lanse.
Surviving are children, Gloria Sankey Gilles and her husband, John, Marilyn “Dody” Lannen and her husband, John and Paul Kerry Sankey and his wife, Linda, all of Lanse.
His surviving step-children are Debra Michaels and her husband, Rodger, Paula Shimmel and Benjamin Chilcote and his wife, Linda, all of Morrisdale, and Cynthia Green of Woodland and a foster son, Eugene Green of Clearfield.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Copenhaver of Altoona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Elmira Dunlap Sankey; two sisters, Norma Shaw and Grace Garvey; and one brother, George Sankey.
Mr. Sankey attended the Lanse Evangelical Free Church, Lanse. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army Air Corps.
Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale, and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lanse Evangelical Free Church, Lanse, with Pastor Matt Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Messiah Baptist Cemetery, Lanse.
Military honors will be accorded at the church by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
