Elsie R. Penny, 97, of the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield, and formerly of Osceola Mills, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.
Born Dec. 17, 1918 in Decatur Township, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Faith (Ibberson) Kephart. She married James G. Penny on June 19, 1937 in Beccaria; he preceded her in death on March 23, 1978.
Mrs. Penny was a member of the Osceola Mills United Methodist Church. She was a retired cafeteria employee of the Philipsburg-Osceola Mills Area School District and a 1936 graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School. She enjoyed sewing and cooking.
She was a former member of the Osceola Mills Borough Council and the Philipsburg Chapter No. 387 Order of the Eastern Star.
She was a member of the Osceola Mills Civic Club, Osceola Mills Historical Foundation, Penn State Education Foundation, Friends of the Library, Osceola Mills Ladies Auxiliary of the Loyal Order of Moose and Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post No. 5020, Osceola Mills. She was also a charter member of the BPOE Philipsburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James R. Penny; two brothers, Gerald and Albert Kephart; and a niece, Marsha Pedrazzani.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth A. “Betsy” Schnarrs and her husband, Harold of Allport; a son, Robert E. “Gene” Penny of Tampa Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, with Pastor Jennifer C. Heikes officiating. Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the funeral time at the funeral home.
