Five people, including the mayor and vice mayor of a southern Mexican town, were shot and killed Saturday, the secretary of government for the state of Chiapas said.
Domingo Lopez Gonzalez, mayor of San Juan Chamula, and Vice Mayor Narciso Lunes Hernandez were meeting with residents in the town’s main square when a group of armed men shot at the crowd, Juan Carlos Gomez Aranda said.
Another 12 people were wounded, he said.
The attorney general’s office from Chiapas said it is investigating Saturday’s killings.
