Colene Harper Bartell, 84, formerly of Bemus Point, NY but who was residing with her daughter in Curwensville, died Friday, July 1, 2016 in Curwensville.
She was born Dec. 12, 1931 in Cave, W.Va., to Raymond and Eva Moyers Harper.
She graduated from Clearfield High School in 1950 and then the Clearfield Hospital School of Nursing in 1953.
She had worked at Warren State Hospital, Clearfield Hospital, Chautauqua Brick Company, Day’s Stationary and for Dr. Mahesh Chander for more than 20 years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church, Bemus Point United Methodist Women, the Bemus Point Study Club and the Clearfield Hospital Nursing School Alumni Association.
She will be greatly missed and remembered by her family and friends for her crafts, cooking and baking.
She will also be greatly missed and remembered for her heart of gold and for being a true fighter who never gave up on life no matter what obstacles were thrown her way.
She will also be greatly missed and remembered as someone who always put others ahead of herself, her fun-loving ways and wry sense of humor that were with her until the very end.
She is survived by her four children, Joni Bartell of Curwensville, Richard Bartell and Randy Bartell of Holmdel, NJ and Timothy Bartell (Melissa Burnett) of Bemus Point, NY.
She was also a proud grandmother to her six grand kitties. Also surviving are a brother, Ronald Harper of Clearfield and many much loved nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard George Bartell, to whom she was married June 4, 1954 in Clearfield, and who died Oct. 12, 2010 after 56 years of marriage, and a brother, George Harper of Clearfield.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Childs will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
