John Lynn “Boo” Smith, 45, of Williamsburg died Thursday, June 30, 2016 at UPMC Altoona Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born March 15, 1971 in Clearfield, he was the son of David Arnold and Mary Joan (Jacobson) Smith.
He was a graduate of Slippery Rock University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in mathematics. After that, he received his Master’s degree in forestry science from Penn State University.
Mr. Smith had worked as a forester for the state Game Commission through the Bureau of Forestry.
He was a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church and the Lead Hollow Camp in Alexandria, Pa.
He had coached little league in the Williamsburg Youth Baseball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, kayaking and anything outdoors.
On May 18, 1996 in Curwensville, he wed the former Jamie Sue Bowery, who survives, along with two sons, Saxton Teo and Aspen John Smith, both at home.
Also surviving are three siblings, David L. Smith and his wife, Andrea and Mary Suzette Smith, both of Glen Richey, and Wendy Lingenfelter and her husband, Jason of Reynoldsville as well as aunts and uncles, George Jacobson and his wife, Suzann and Lois Mitchell, both of Glen Richey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and aunts and uncles, Ronald Jacobson, Rita Jacobson and John Jacobson.
Funeral services for John “Boo” Smith will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc., 300 State St., Curwensville, with the Rev. Heather Wurst officiating. Burial will be in the Thompson Cemetery of Glen Richey.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 431 W. Second Ave., Williamsburg, and again from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
