Thursday, June 2
Wounded Warriors and Veterans – Fern Hike
6 p.m. – outside Park Office
How many different ferns can you identify? Take a stroll through the forest as we identify various types of ferns along the way. This hike is along relatively easy terrain. Please wear appropriate footwear.
Friday, June 3
Tales From the Hive
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Bees are amazing creatures, quite possibly working harder than most others. Watch as the secret world of a bee colony is unveiled and we can see how life as a bee unfolds. Discover new-found facts about the strange and complex life of bees.
Saturday, June 4
Bird Walk and Talk
9 a.m. – outside Park Office
Come along as we tale an easy walk through some of the day-use areas of the park to find what different species of birds we can both see and hear. We’ll also discuss ways to make seeing and identifying birds easier.
Beaver Dam Trail
3 p.m. – Beach House
Travel through varying habitats where you may see signs of diverse wildlife. Part of the trail follows a historic railroad grade; learn a bit about the park’s history along the way. This two and a half mile loop covers easy terrain.
Where the River Begins
6:30 p.m. – Beach House
Meet for story-time, as we head to the picnic area nearby. This week’s story will give us a look into the world of streams as two brothers go on a camping adventure with their grandfather. The story is best-suited for children between the ages of 4 and 10.
Pennsylvania Owls:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Come learn about the different owls that find a home in Penn’s Woods. Find out how their many adaptations help them to be such great hunters of the night. Then watch the Nature Nut as he shows you all about owls.
Sunday, June 5
Tea and Talk – Local History:
6 p.m. – Beach House steps
Sweet fern makes an excellent tea. Learn how to identify this wild tea and try some, while discussing the area’s local history. Timber, coal, coke, and gas are industries which have impacted the area and its resources. Please bring your own cup/mug.
Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars
8:30 p.m. – Spillway, near CCC Museum
Our closest planets appear as bright points of light in the sky. Learn more about these three planets in our solar system and view them through the park’s telescopes.
