Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has hired pollster Tony Fabrizio, two sources tell CNN.
The story was first reported by Politico on Monday, a story Fabrizio’s Twitter account sent out.
While working on numerous state and senate campaigns, Fabrizio also had previously worked for former Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s 2012 presidential bid and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul’s run earlier this primary cycle.
Trump has previously and publicly lambasted the use of pollsters, most notably on NBC’s “Meet The Press” last year.
“I don’t have pollsters,” he told host Chuck Todd. “I don’t want to waste money on pollsters. I don’t want to be unreal. I want to be me.”
Trump became the Republican Party’s presumptive presidential nominee after his two remaining primary challengers dropped out earlier this month.
As he moves his attention to the general election, adding polling help isn’t his only change in campaign tactics. He’s also signaled that he’ll “most likely” have to start fundraising, after a primary season where part of his appeal to voters was his self-funding campaign.
