As Donald Trump laid into Hillary Clinton during his victory speech Tuesday night, saying she was only getting support from other women because of their gender, New Jersey first lady Mary Pat Christie’s expression stole the show.
“The only thing she’s got going is the woman’s card. And the beautiful thing is women don’t like her, OK?” Trump said.
Christie, who was standing right behind Trump, glanced over at her husband, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and made a subtle eye-roll that caught viewers’ attention.
The moment was not lost on CNN’s Gloria Borger.
“Mary Pat kind of looked over at her husband. She winced or rolled her eyes,” Borger told CNN’s Anderson Cooper after Trump’s remarks. “The thing about Donald Trump is that he doubles down on everything. He doesn’t apologize. He doubles down and what he was doing tonight not only was gratuitously taking a slap at Hillary Clinton as a woman but also stirring the pot.”
The Daily Beast’s Gideon Resnick, tweeted out a similar clip with the caption, “This is brutal.”
And other reporters noticed as well.
“This just keeps getting better – Now Mary Pat Christie seems to roll her eyes as Trump mocks Clinton,” Reuters’ Aurindom Mukherjee tweeted.
“I didn’t see a better performance in sports, entertainment or politics than the one Mary Pat Christie put on tonight. Something for everyone,” the Detroit Free Press’ Josh Mansour tweeted.
