SANDY TOWNSHIP – A fire engulfed a camp Saturday at 85 Coal Rd., off of Mountain Run Road, reported Sandy Township Fire Chief John Hallowell.
Fire units responded to the call at 12:34 a.m., and the camp was “fully-involved” upon their arrival, he said.
According to him, the camp was occupied by six people at the time it caught fire. All were sleeping but woke up when they heard a “loud pop.”
When they saw fire they exited the camp. One male was injured trying to put out the fire when he fell from a ladder, said Hallowell.
The male was taken to the Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital by emergency personnel. “His condition is unknown,” said Hallowell.
“No firefighter injuries were noted,” Hallowell added. “Everything went smoothly and water wasn’t an issue. [The] fire was knocked down quickly upon the crews’ arrival.”
Crews, he said, were on the scene for three hours. He also said that a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal is investigating the fire, although it appears to be accidental.
Hallowell said it is unknown if the camp was insured.
Union Township, Falls Creek and Penfield fire crews assisted at the scene. They were also assisted by Sandy Township police.
