Donald Trump may have made headlines earlier this week when he backed away from a pledge to support the Republican nominee, but on Saturday, he urged others to take a pledge of a different kind.
At a rally in Wasau, Wisconsin, he took a moment to have a group of teenagers in attendance promise him that they will never take drugs.
“Raise your hands, kids. I promise Donald J. Trump that I will never take drugs,” Trump said to the teens, some of whom were clad in “Trump’s Wall” shirts.
This is not the first pledge Trump has led at his rallies. Last month, Trump light-heartedly asked his rally attendees to raise their right hand and “solemnly swear” to vote in the upcoming Florida primary.
The GOP front-runner also has been vocal on the campaign trail about not drinking or doing drugs.
During an interview in February with CNN’s Anderson Cooper in New Hampshire, Trump spoke about his late brother, who died from alcohol addiction.
“He got hooked on alcohol. Just hooked. Ultimately, it just was devastating,” Trump told Cooper. “That’s why I don’t drink, I don’t smoke cigarettes, I don’t do drugs.”
Trump also told the teens Saturday to stay away from cigarettes. And he warned against drinking alcohol.
“I don’t want to say no alcohol,” he said, “but take it easy on the alcohol.”
