TYRONE — Two Clearfield Area High School seniors were named to the 2015-16 Mountain Girls Basketball League All-Star Team that was announced at the annual winter sports banquet earlier this month in the Tyrone Area High School.
Center Rachel Glenny was selected to the second team while point guard Emily Ryan received honorable mention for the third season in a row in voting by the head coaches.
Glenny just missed a double-double average in topping the Lady Bison with 327 points, a 14.2 average, and 224 rebounds, including 93 under the offensive glass.
Ryan led the Lady Bison in assists with 144 and was second in points with 244, a 10.6 average, as well as rebounds with 142 in 23 games.
Ryan was a four-year letterwinner with 612 points in 85 games. She played in every game the last three seasons.
Glenny lettered three seasons and scored 585 points in 66 games.
Tyrone junior Kasey Engle was named the ML Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row after making the first team as a freshman. The Lady Eagle guard already has scored more than 1,000 points in her career.
The head coaches selected seniors Jess Book of Bellefonte and Finnley Christine to the first team for the second time. Both were on the second team as sophomores.
Also picked for first-team laurels were Philipsburg-Osceola senior Haylee Hayward, Penns Valley junior Maci Ilgen and Central junior Hannah Johnston, all moving up from last season’s second team. Hayward also was honorable mention two years ago.
Joining Glenny on the second team are Philipsburg-Osceola freshman Halle Herrington, Penns Valley senior Mackenzie Ironside, Tyrone junior Alexis Cannistraci and Central sophomore Cassie Mock. Ironside was on the second team for 2014-15 and honorable mention for 2013-14. Cannistraci was on last season’s honorable mention list.
Senior Karli Ripka and junior Kourtney Beamesderfer of Penns Valley and senior Logan Felton and sophomore Maddie Gearhart of Huntingdon received honorable mention. Ripka was on the second team the last two seasons.
