Ted Cruz, in an appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Wednesday, joked that he might be inclined to run over Donald Trump in a car if the opportunity arose.
The crack came after Kimmel opened the show with April Fool’s Day pranks by people putting scary images in car back-up cameras.
He then added without prompting, “If I were in my car and getting ready to reverse and saw Donald in the backup camera, I’m not confident which pedal I’d push.”
When asked who he likes better — President Barack Obama or Republican presidential rival Donald Trump — Cruz said he “dislikes Obama’s policies more … but Donald — Donald is a unique individual.”
The Texas senator, showing his personal side, said that he’s seen all seven “Star Wars” movies, and that the newest installment “almost” made him cry due to (spoiler alert!) the death of a major character.
Cruz also told an amusing story about going to a Pink Floyd concert in high school, where “two or three seats down from me was a police officer smoking a joint. Holding a roach clip, smoking a joint.”
“I was 17, and he was in uniform. I mean, this was an officer in uniform,” Cruz laughed. “I shook my head and said, ‘Well, it’s Floyd.’ “
The conservative firebrand also debated Kimmel over Obamacare and Cruz’s call for police to patrol Muslim neighborhoods.
While Cruz was laying into his sharp criticism of Obamacare, describing the law as a “disaster,” Kimmel cut him off, replying, “Is that really a disaster? It doesn’t feel like it is. The word disaster is a strong word to use.”
Cruz said: “I agree, it is probably not a disaster with millionaire Hollywood movie stars and rock stars. So in the circles that are coming here, it hasn’t been a disaster.”
Later, Kimmel pressed Cruz on his Muslim policing proposal.
“You’re a strict constitutionalist, isn’t this in direct competition with the Bill of Rights?” he asked.
“Not remotely,” Cruz said.
Kimmel eventually said: “Yeah, I don’t know. I’m not with you on that one. But you know what, we will agree to disagree.”
Cruz joked: “I’ll cross you off the list for Homeland Security.”
