Donald Trump campaign spokeswoman Katrina Pierson defended campaign manager Corey Lewandowski just hours after he was charged Tuesday with simple battery, predicting he “will be cleared on all counts.”
“Everyone has been attacked on this campaign,” Pierson told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “That did not happen, that’s not on video, and Mr. Lewandowski will be cleared on all counts.”
Lewandowski was charged with simple battery, after he allegedly grabbed then-Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields at a campaign event on March 8.
Spokesmen for the campaigns of Ted Cruz and John Kasich also responded on CNN to the allegations, in a heated panel where surrogates from the rival campaigns attacked the GOP front-runner.
“This culture has become apart of the Trump campaign,” Cruz spokesman Chad Sweet said. “We’re just trying to focus on the issues.”
Kasich spokesman Trent Duffy accused the billionaire businessman of running an unruly campaign.
“The campaign is reflective of the candidate and how he conducts himself,” Duffy said. “The more we learn about Donald Trump, we realize he is not the right leader for our country.”
Pierson responded that other campaigns and the media were politicizing the incident.
“Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, at least that’s what I thought,” Pierson said. “She said she was aggressively grabbed and thrown to the ground. This is a man who has small children, and now has to face charges from this claim.”
Duffy responded: “Our campaign isn’t throwing reporters to the ground.”
Pierson countered: “Well, reporters aren’t running up to your campaign.”
