CLEARFIELD – Got overdue library books? The Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library is offering its patrons the option of having fines waived on overdue materials from Nov. 24 through Dec. 20 during the Holiday Amnesty period.
This year’s beneficiary of Holiday Amnesty is the Clearfield Ministerium Food Pantry. Patrons who return overdue materials, including books, DVDs, and audio books, may donate an item to the food pantry for each overdue item they are returning. Those patrons with past due items will hopefully use this grace period to get their library account in good standing prior to the start of the upcoming year. However, previous account balances in the form of fines, replacement fees, service charges, etc. will not be eligible for the amnesty.
There are individuals throughout the community who struggle to provide daily meals for their families. This is especially noted during the holiday season as families blessed to receive extravagant meals are saddened by those families who have trouble providing the basic necessities. The Shaw Public Library in cooperation with the Clearfield Women’s Club is pleased to assist the Clearfield Ministerium Food Pantry this year, as its job is to provide meals to an average of 350 families and individuals throughout the area. Individuals wishing to waive fines or simply donate to the food pantry are asked to consider any number of items, including donations of: nonperishable dairy products, such as canned milk, instant cocoa, and Chez Whiz; fruits, including apple sauce, fruit cocktail, and raisins; grains, such as cereals, stuffing mixes, pastas, and flour; meats, including beef stews, canned meats, and beef and chicken broth; and vegetables, such as any kind of canned vegetable, instant potatoes, and soup. In addition to food items, the food pantry also accepts paper products, including toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues; and basic need items, such as soap, shampoo, and toothpaste.
