She’s one of the world’s biggest pop stars — and now Taylor Swift has the chance to win over a whole new legion of fans — Formula One petrolheads.
Later this year the 10-times Grammy award winner will be the headline act after Saturday qualifying at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
Swift’s fifth album ‘1989’ sold almost 1.3 million copies in its debut week last year and she’ll be the main attraction on the Super Stage on October 22.
The race, which is scheduled for October 23, will take place at the Circuit of Americas for the fifth year in succession — the scene of Lewis Hamilton’s championship triumph last season.
There had been some doubt over whether the race would take place with the track reported to have encountered financial troubles but any potential roadblocks have been swiftly overcome.
“We are so happy to confirm F1’s return to COTA as well as Taylor Swift’s headline performance,” Bobby Epstein, Chairman and CEO of Circuit of The Americas, said in a statement.
“We can’t think of a better way to mark this important five-year milestone for F1 in Austin.”
