Hillary Clinton holds a sizable lead over Bernie Sanders in Georgia, Tennessee and Texas, while Ted Cruz is ahead of Donald Trump in at least one of those Super Tuesday states, according to new polling out Sunday.
Clinton is leading Sanders in the three Super Tuesday states, by roughly 2-to-1 margins, according to new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls.
Cruz is leading Trump 39%-26% in Texas, according to the new polls. But the brash billionaire is winning Georgia by 30 percentage points over Cruz and Marco Rubio, who are tied at 23%. And Trump is also winning Tennessee, at 40%, over Cruz (22%) and Rubio (19%).
The numbers bode well for the respective front-runners going into Tuesday’s contests. Clinton is looking for big wins in the South to lock up the nomination sooner. Trump meanwhile is looking for big wins across the board. But a Cruz win in Texas would present a significant road block.
The Georgia poll was conducted February 18-23 and reached 543 likely Republican voters, with a margin of error of plus-minus 4.2 percentage points, and 461 likely Democratic voters, with a margin of error of 4.6 percentage points.
