Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump, despite their victories in the New Hampshire primaries, may or may not ever compete in a real presidential debate. But just in case, two comedians are here with the next best thing.
Anthony Atamanuik and James Adomian have taken on the roles of Trump and Sanders, respectively, for a series of mock debates between the two White House contenders. “Trump vs. Bernie: The Debate Tour 2016,” which is currently touring comedy clubs across the country, leaves you wondering whether to laugh because it’s funny, or cry because it’s far too close to the truth. (You’ll probably do a little of both.)
The show came together after Atamanuik and Adomian saw clips of the other performing solo impressions of Trump and Sanders. They joined forces and premiered the debate as part of an Upright Citizens Brigade performance in New York last fall.
Both men said they support Sanders in real life, but Atamanuik has another, more personal reason for not wishing Trump success.
“I hope I am a big loser,” Atamanuik said, speaking with his Trump impression before switching to his normal voice. “Because personally, I do not want to play this guy for the rest of my life.”
