Zurat, Porter, Bloom to Play in All-star Hoops Game at Clarion Saturday

CLARION – Chad Zurat and Gwenn Porter of Clearfield and Tess Bloom of Curwensville have accepted invitations to play in the annual Sportsmanship I All-Star Basketball Game at Clarion Area High School Saturday night.  

The girls game will tip off at 6 p.m. with the finals of the boys 3-point shooting contest at halftime.  

The boys game is set for 7:30 with the finals of the girls 3-point shooting competition at intermission.  

A preliminary round for 3-point shooters will be held prior to the games.  

 Zurat, a 6-2 guard-forward, was Clearfield’s top scorer with 378 points, a 15.8 average, and rebounds with 181.  

Porter was the No. 2 pointmaker for the Lady Bisons with 251 points, a 10.9 average.   The 5-6 point guard doled out a team-high 90 assists, was second in steals with 61 and wound up third in rebounds with 78.  

Bloom, a 5-9 playmaker, paced Curwensville in scoring with 338 points, a 16.1 average that ranked No. 5 in District 9, assists with 26 and steals with 63 and was second in rebounds with 156, a 7.4 average.  

Coaching the boys teams will be Glenn Bobak of North Clarion for the North and Jim Marron of Allegheny-Clarion Valley for the South.  

For the girls teams, the coaches will be Roger Walter of Clarion for the North and Chad Nellis of Keystone for the South.   Proceeds will go to the Clarion YMCA and other area charities.
