Joseph V. Kovalcin, 90, of Troy died Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 at the Heights at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.
Born Feb. 3, 1926 in Oak Grove, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Anna Kadash Kovalcin.
Mr. Kovalcin was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Philipsburg.
He was a life member of the Elks No. 1173, Philipsburg. He was also a member of the Bald Eagle Fraternal Order of Police.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African ME1 Star and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.
Mr. Kovalcin was married to Evelyn Kovalcin on Aug. 23, 1950. She preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 2006.
He is survived by a daughter, Annette Lumadue and her husband, Billy of West Decatur and three sons, Joseph Kovalcin and his wife, Sheila of Philipsburg, Ronald Kovalcin and his wife, Gail of Blacksburg, Va., and Randy Kovalcin and his wife, Beth of Torrance, Calif.
He is also survived by a sister, Leona Good of Tyrone, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Kovalcin was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Swansegar and Dorothy Jones Conklin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Philipsburg, with Father John Gibbons as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Cemetery, Morrisdale.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale.
A Christian Vigil Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
