William J. Bryan, 92, of Hyde died Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 at Penn Highland Clearfield under hospice care.
Mr. Bryan was born Oct. 21, 1923 in Clearfield, the son of Thomas A. and Maude (Quigley) Bryan.
He was a graduate of Clearfield High School in the class of 1941.
Mr. Bryan had been employed by Hooker Chemical Company in Niagara Falls, NY as a chemical operator until retiring in 1977.
He had attended the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church of Clearfield.
Mr. Bryan was of the greatest generation and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Charles Lawrence as a Seaman First Class. He was a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6.
He is survived by a daughter, Joy E. Bryan of Hyde; a brother, Richard A. Bryan of Seneca; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bryan was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Reath L. (Johnston) Bryan, to whom he was married Feb. 21, 1944. She died June 19, 2009.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis J. Bryan, who died June 19, 1990 and a brother, Thomas A. Bryan.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with Pastor George W. Solley officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Clearfield Honor Guard. Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. Wednesday until the hour of services.
