The American Red Cross Central Pennsylvania Region needs your help.
It is collecting basic personal care items for homeless veterans, which will be placed into backpacks for its Totes of Hope Program. The backpacks will, in turn, be distributed to homeless veterans in the community.
From now through Feb. 29, the Red Cross is collecting the items needed to assemble 150 backpacks to be distributed through its network to those in need.
Thanks to the generosity of many individuals and corporate partners, it has collected most of the items needed. It is, however, still seeking additional items to complete the backpacks. These items include:
- Fleece Lap Blankets, Flashlights, Batteries for Flashlights, Pocket Mirrors, Personal Sewing Kits, Personal First Aid Kits, Nail Clippers, Rain Ponchos, Decks of Cards, Notepads, Hydrocortisone Cream, Adhesive Bandages, Study 17-Inch Backpacks, and Shaving Cream.
Donors are also encouraged to write a note of thanks to veterans that will be included in each of the backpacks.
Donated items can be dropped off at the Red Cross Offices in Carlisle (79 E. Pomfret St.), Harrisburg (1804 N. Sixth St.), Lewisburg (249 Farley Circle), State College (205 E. Beaver Ave., Suite 203), Williamsport (320 E. Third St.), and York (724 S. George St.) during normal business hours.
All questions concerning the Totes of Hope Program should be directed to Lori Demchak at lori.demchak@redcross.org or 717-257-1822 ext. 1251.
All American Red Cross disaster assistance is provided free of charge and is made possible by the voluntary donations of time and money from caring individuals and, in part, by contributions given through the United Way.
