CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors approved two Conditional Use zoning applications at last night’s meeting.
Immediately prior to the meeting, back-to-back public hearings were held regarding the zoning applications.
Faith Connections Church sought conditional use zoning for the church located at 1101 S. Second St., Clearfield, zoned as Commercial.
Faith Bible Church At The Bridge applied for conditional use zoning for their church located at 8908 Clearfield Curwensville Hwy., zoned as Commercial Highway.
With the conditional uses approved, Code Enforcement and Zoning Officer, Debra Finkbeiner, assured the church leaders that she would finalize the paperwork, so the applications could be completed for State Department of Labor Occupancy Permits needed for the church facilities to be fully in compliance with state and local requirements.
The supervisors approved a resolution to award a disability pension for a township police officer who was injured in an accident and, according to Solicitor James Naddeo, suffered permanent disabilities.
Naddeo also questioned the supervisors on the need to maintain the Wolf Run Authority. The supervisors agreed the authority no longer has a function and instructed Naddeo to begin proceedings to dissolve the authority.
Roadmaster Ron Woodling presented a quote for a new Ford F5500 truck from Bradco Supply at a cost of $81,746.79, with a trade-in offer of $5,000 for the 1997 truck the township currently has in use.
Woodling said the new truck would not be ready for deliver before late February or March. The supervisors agreed selling the 1997 truck outright would be the better option, and that it would need to be kept in service until the new truck is delivered. Approval was given to purchase the new truck from Bradco.
Woodling reported that he would like to overlay the paving on Leonard Street, once the housing construction is completed. He said he reviewed the project with the engineer and estimate the cost for paving to be $122,000.
Woodling said he and Township Secretary Barbara Shaffner talked with County Chief Clerk Lisa McFadden, about possible funds from the county to help with the project.
Shaffner said McFadden suggested there may be funds available and that the supervisors needed to write an official request for help in funding the paving project. The supervisors approved to have Shaffner draw up a letter to the County Commissioners to request the funding aid.
A certificate of appreciation was awarded to Supervisor Chairman Randy Powell in recognition of his service of more than 20 years on the township’s Zoning Hearing Board before his election to the Board of Supervisors in November.
