Ritz Theater, downtown Clearfield

The theater’s lobby opens at 6:30 p.m. You can grab some popcorn, even if you cannot attend the movie showings. For movies and show times, please call 814-765-5835. Prices are $6 for adults and $4 for children (12 years and under) and senior citizens (60 years and older).

Saturday, Jan. 16
Winterfest
Treasure Lake, DuBois
A Winterfest event will be held Saturday, Jan. 16 and Sunday, Jan. 17 at Treasure Lake in DuBois. It will include a winter volleyball tournament, a hockey shoot-out, a cardboard box derby for kids and sled riding at the lodge.
There will be hot food at the bonfire, as well as live music Saturday night. On Sunday, Jan. 17, there will be the famous Treasure Lake Idol karaoke contest and a chili cook-off.
For Winterfest, Treasure Lake opens its gates for the public. Admission and parking are free of charge. For more information, please visit the Treasure Lake Web site.
Window Birding, Parker Dam

If you aren’t watching the birds, then why aren’t you? You can make those long winter days more enjoyable. Learn some easy tips and tricks to attracting birds to be seen from your window and the tools you will need to identify them. With at least three days’ notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
Snowy Day Saturday
Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center
You can come in for Snow Day activities, including a snowball fight, the Penguin Shuffle and snowball relay races! Plus, enjoy exhibits and snowball cookies and hot chocolate. No pre-registration is needed. The cost is the regular admission of $5 per person, and children 2 and under is free.
The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center is located at 201 N. Findley St., Punxsutawney. Hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Open days vary with the season so please visit the Web site.

If you think that winter is long and hard to bear, try surviving it the way that PA’s wildlife does – without a roof, furnace, or Woolrich jacket. Learn about the many adaptations and tricks used by wildlife to stay warm in the winter. 1 p.m. – “All About Skunks”
Elk Country Visitor Center
Most people are familiar with a skunk’s smell, but you may not know that they are a very useful part of our ecosystem. Learn about the two species of skunk found in Pennsylvania.
Youth Acting Classes
Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre
Youth Acting Classes will take place Saturday mornings at CAST in January and February, beginning Jan. 9 under the instruction of Gayle Gearhart, CAST artistic director.
Grades 1-3 will meet 9 a.m. – 10 a.m., grades 4-7 will meet 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., and grades 8-12 will meet 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Registration can be done online or on Jan. 9 when arriving for classes. Registration is $35 per child, or $30 per child for families with more than one participant.
Work Parties
Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre
Work parties to help spruce up CAST will happen each Saturday in January starting at 12 p.m. Building maintenance, repairs, set construction, cleaning, reorganizing materials, and much more will be done during this time. Any and all volunteers are greatly appreciated during these sessions.
CAST is the local nonprofit arts center located at 112 E Locust St., in Clearfield. Tax-deductible contributions can be accepted at CAST, P.O. Box 613, Clearfield, and members are always searching for those who love the arts to take part in the revitalization.

A Best-Tasting Soup cook-off and soup sale will be held at the DuBois Village on Thursday, Jan. 21. Also, a Mid-Day Mixer will be held at the P&G Fyzical Therapy and Balance Center.
