HALFMOON TOWNSHIP – Two Port Matilda boys were airlifted after a single vehicle accident Sunday afternoon, the Philipsburg State Police reported. Both were passengers in the vehicle.
A boy who suffered “severe injuries” was lifeflighted from the scene to the Altoona Trauma Center, while a second boy who was initially taken to the Mount Nittany Medical Center was later flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment of “moderate to severe injuries.”
According to police, the accident occurred at 12:40 p.m. on state Route 550, near Sawmill Road in Halfmoon Township. Jessica K. Dubbs, 18 of Julian, was traveling on SR 550, when she negotiated a down hill, left-hand sweeping curve in the roadway. Dubbs lost control of her vehicle. Her vehicle began traveling broadside, leaving the roadway onto the west side shoulder. Police said her vehicle traveled for approximately 40 feet on the shoulder and then traveled down a “very steep” embankment before rolling over two to three times. The vehicle came to a rest on its roof in a small stream.
A Julian boy suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center. Dubbs also suffered moderate injuries as a result of the accident.
Both were wearing their lap and shoulder belts at the time of the accident.
