The films “Carol” and “Bridge of Spies” gathered the most nominations for the 68th edition of the BAFTA awards, which are considered the most prestigious film awards besides the Oscars.
And rising star Alicia Vikander pulled off a coup with nominations for both best actress and best supporting actress.
Other nominations were less surprising. Cate Blanchett, Eddie Redmayne, Brie Larson, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba all won acting nominations.

In addition, the Golden Globes will be awarded Sunday.
The BAFTA nominees for best film are “The Big Short,” “Bridge of Spies”, “The Revenant,” “Carol” and “Spotlight.”
