At least seven people are dead after gunmen launched an attack on an Indian air force base near to the border with Pakistan on Saturday, officials said.
A group of gunmen raided the Pathankot air force base in the northwestern state of Punjab.
An Indian government official told CNN that two members of the Indian Security Forces, one civilian, and four of the militants were killed in the resulting gunfight. One militant is believed to have gained access to the base and is holed up inside.
“The operation is ongoing,” the official said.
Earlier, an Indian Defense Ministry spokesman, Dhananjay Mohanty, said the attackers were “intercepted” before they could storm the Pathankot airbase and that the situation was under control.
No group has claimed responsibility for the action.
