AUSTIN – On Thursday, Jan. 7, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Sinnemahoning State Park will be holding a homeschool day that is for the birds.
Sinnemahoning State Park staff will offer a Project Feeder Watch educational day for homeschooled and cyber-schooled students in grades K-12.
Through games and hands-on activities, students will learn to identify the most common winter visitors and how to attract them to their own backyards.
Students will discover how citizen scientists can contribute real data to the study of birds in the area through the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s bird monitoring program called Project Feeder Watch.
Participants will conclude the day by making birdfeeders to take home and begin their own backyard feeder observations.
Pre-registration is required. To register call Sinnemahoning State Park office at 814-647-8401, or e-mail SinnemahoningSP@pa.gov.
There is no fee for this program. All activities will be held indoors. Please register no later than Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015.
If you need an accommodation to participate in PA State Park activities due to a disability, please contact the park you plan to visit. With at least three days’ notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
