BROCKWAY – The District 9 Class AAA Basketball Playoffs have been finalized, and the Clearfield girls will be playing Wednesday, Feb. 25, according to District 9 Basketball Committee chairman Jim Manners of Brockway Area High School.
The possibility of a girls-boys double-header at Clearfield on Tuesday, Feb. 24, went by the boards Tuesday night when the St. Marys boys outlasted Bradford 65-61 in triple overtime.
Seeds are determined by District 9 League records, and Clearfield (11-1) would have been hosting Punxsutawney (6-6) if Bradford (5-7) had beaten St. Marys (8-4).
Losing the season finale sends Bradford (12-10 overall) to Clearfield (20-2) and Punxsy (12-10) to St. Marys (13-9) for 7 p.m. semifinal games Tuesday.
In the lone girls semifinal, Clearfield (12-10, 6-6 D-9 League) will host Punxsutawney (7-15, 5-7) next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The winner will travel to Clarion University Saturday, Feb. 28, for the championship game against top seed St. Marys (20-2, 10-2) at 1 p.m.
The boys title game will follow at 3 p.m. in Tippin Gymnasium.
