CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville baseball team scored in all but one inning of a five inning, 11-0 shutout of visiting Kane Monday afternoon to run their season record to 10-4.
Golden Tide junior Wes McGarry limited the Wolves to just one hit, a fourth inning single by Logan Depto, to pick up his second win of the year.
Jesse Hoover had a huge game at the plate for Curwensville. The Tide senior shortstop had a double in the fourth inning that drove in one runner and a game ending grand slam home run deep over the left-center field fence in the fifth that halted the contest due to the 10-run rule.
Head coach Ryan Briskar of Curwensville spoke about the bat of Hoover afterwards, “ Jesse (Hoover) hit the ball very well with the grand slam in the fifth and a very solid double in the fourth.”
Briskar then took time to praise his winning pitcher, “Wes (McGarry) had a great day on the mound for us. He had complete control of all three pitches and was just dominant in only giving up one hit.”
The Tide led just 3-0 after three innings; but it was the fourth and fifth that propelled the Tide to the District 9 Northern Allegany Small School Division Southern Tier victory. Curwensville would score three in the fourth and pick up five more in the fifth in large part due to the Hoover grand slam.
McGarry, Sam Gardner and Ben McGary all had two hits to support the Tide offense. McGary and McGarry each had doubles while Mark Dell’Antonio had two RBI’s.
With the D-9 win the Tide are 6-4 in league play and trail Elk County Catholic by one game as of Monday night. Kane, in last place, is 2-8 in the league after the defeat and is 3-12 overall.
The eleven hit attack by the Golden Tide was addressed by Briskar, “As a team we hit the ball very well this afternoon. Hopefully we can keep it going and continue to hit the ball with authority.”
The Golden Tide have a Moshannon Valley League (MVL) contest on Tuesday when they host the West Branch Warriors at 4:15 pm for the MVL title. The Tide and Warriors each own 3-0 MVL records.
