CLEARFIELD – After a preliminary hearing Wednesday, all charges were held for court against a Clearfield man who was allegedly found in possession of marijuana and methamphetamine smoking pipes after a search of his residence in April.
Marcus Cory McCoy, 31, of Clearfield has been charged with manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; intentional possession of a controlled substance; and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
Agent Keith Summerson of Pennsylvania Probation & Parole testified that on April 28 Lawrence Township police were planning to serve subpoenas for an upcoming criminal court proceeding. A subpoena was held for a female who was allegedly staying with McCoy at a Wood Avenue residence, he said.
Before departing for the residence, Summerson said that officers spoke with him. He was advised of the subpoena and that the female was allegedly staying with McCoy. Summerson said that he was supervising McCoy, who was on state parole, and he would accompany police to conduct a compliance check.
Summerson said he had received a report that McCoy was involved with using and selling drugs. Upon arrival at the residence, Summerson, along with county probation officers, knocked at the door, which was answered by McCoy.
Summerson advised that he was there to conduct a compliance check, and police were present to serve a subpoena on a female staying there. He said a different, female at the residence advised she was on her way to work and took off.
As soon as the female left, Summerson said that McCoy allegedly told authorities that she had methamphetamine on her. He said township officers departed from the residence in an attempt to locate the female in her vehicle.
At the residence, Summerson said he requested to check McCoy’s cell phone. He allegedly found a text-message conversation, which was indicative that McCoy was involved with drug activities.
Summerson said he proceeded to handcuff McCoy and started clearing the couch for a place for McCoy to sit. While clearing the couch to check for weapons, he allegedly found a pipe typically used to smoke methamphetamine.
Summerson said as he continued to clear couches in the living area, he allegedly located a total of four methamphetamine smoking pipes. Summerson then opened a closet and allegedly located a clear, plastic bag containing four, individually-wrapped bags of suspected marijuana.
At that point, Summerson said he stopped and contacted police to return to McCoy’s residence. Police subsequently asked McCoy for consent to search his residence, which he permitted officers to do.
Sgt. James Glass of the Lawrence Township police said officers received consent to search the residence. He said although McCoy’s father owns the residence, McCoy is in control of it. He said police seized the suspected marijuana and methamphetamine smoking pipes from the residence.
Glass said that when the search was complete, police transported McCoy to the township police station. There, he said police interviewed McCoy about suspected drug activity throughout Clearfield.
Glass said when the interview was complete McCoy was turned over to Summerson.
