Wingate — 15 seconds was all it took Friday night for the Clearfield Bisons to score 14 points. On Clearfield’s opening possession of the game Jarrin Campman hooked up with brother Trey Campman on a 40 yard scoring strike. On the following defensive possession Scott Nishida rushed hard off the right end and blocked a punt; which Jarrin Campman picked up and strolled untouched into the end zone. From that point on there was no looking back as Clearfield improved to 5-1 with a 41-6 blow out of Bald Eagle.
“Trey Campman and Scott Nishida had great games tonight. Scott’s blocked punt was a huge play, and Trey made big catch after big catch,” said Clearfield Head Coach Tim Janocko
It wasn\’t just the Bison offense though that made an impression Friday night. Clearfield’s starting defense left the game in the fourth quarter not allowing a single first down and pitching a shutout against a tough Bald Eagle team.
\”Our defensive played well,\” Janocko said. \”That\’s huge because I\’ve watched them (Bald Eagle) move the ball on some good teams, and they have two wins under their belt and they\’re big and they\’re physical. So I thought our defense really stepped up to the plate tonight.
“Nick Redden and Robert Faust both did a good job of clogging up their running lanes. Our defense in general just played an outstanding game,” commented Coach Janocko.
The Bison defense just came up with big play after big play. Nick Redden and Scott Nishida each registered half a sack, while Trey Campman and Brandon Sass both came up with interceptions. Also Curtis Frye and Jarrin Campman broke up countless passes thrown their way.
\”It\’s big for us going into the second half of the year. We have to play good defense against the teams we have coming up. We worked hard on defense this week, and I think it paid off for us,\” said Janocko of the defensive play of the Bisons.
Once again the senior tandem of Isaiah Morgan and Jarrin Campman provided most of the firepower for the Bison offense. Morgan finished the contest with 16 carries for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns. While Campman had a near perfect night connecting on 9 of 11 passes for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns, and also adding another 27 on the ground with a touchdown.
“It’s always expected that Jarrin and Isaiah are going to have big nights, but they aren’t the only guys who played well. A lot of players had big games tonight, and that’s what it takes to win,” said Janocko.
In a game perhaps not that exciting for fans to watch, there was one play that got the crowd going. In the 3rd quarter on a fourth down punt Parker Herrington picked up a low snap off the turf and to avoid being hit for a loss took off sprinting to the left. When Herrington realized he was not going to pick up the first down running he alertly in midsprint got off a rugby style punt with a diving defender running past him. The punt was extremely effective as it traveled 48 yards and pinned the Eagles at their own 2 yard line.
After forcing a three and out on Bald Eagle\’s first drive the Bisons only took one play from scrimmage to jump out to an early lead. Jarrin Campman lead brother Trey down the sideline where Trey made the catch and outran 2 defenders to the end zone. Herrington added the PAT.
On Bald Eagle\’s next possession the Bisons once again forced a three and out, but this time on the punt Scott Nishida blitzed off the corner and came up with a block and Jarrin Campman scooped and scored for six points. Herrington once again knocked through the point after.
The next Bald Eagle possession would be ended by a Jarrin Campman pass deflection on 4th down. Prior to the deflection Bald Eagle had a touchdown called back for holding. The Bisons wasted no time once the got the ball back as Morgan capped of a 71 yard drive running off the right end for a 18 yard touchdown.
The trend continued for Bald Eagle on the following possession as they yet again were forced by the stingy Bison defense to a three and out. Jarrin Campman would call his own number on the next Bison possession running straight ahead for a 6 yard touchdown to cap off a 65 yard drive.
Bald Eagle’s next two drives would stall with interceptions by Sass and Trey Campman while the Bisons would tack on another TD as Campman connected with Sass on a 16 yard scoring strike.
Morgan would put the icing on the cake scoring his second touchdown of the game just minutes into the second half allowing the Bison reserves to take the field.
The Bisons will return home Friday night to take on the Penns Valley Rams at the Clearfield Bison Sports Complex with kickoff scheduled for 7:00
