Reynoldsville —Don Henry of DuBois became the eleventh different driver this season to pick up a win in the four-cylinder class at Hummingbird Speedway. Other winners Saturday evening on State Representative Dan Surra night included Bob McMillen of St. Marys, Gary Little of Clearfield, Jason Bainey of Philipsburg, and Ben Smith of Penfield.
The IC Light Beer four-cylinders opened the feature action this evening with Brandon Weidow and Todd Benny starting on the front row. Orin Taylor got the jump on the field of the 15-lap feature and held the lead for the first three laps, but during a caution on that lap, Taylor had to be pushed to the pit area with a broken transmission. Henry inherited the lead with Alan Barnett giving chase. Henry maintained the lead at the halfway mark with Barnett, Bill Washek, George Bailey, and Bob Ralston, Jr. rounding out the top five. The leaders started to work lapped traffic with three laps to go before a caution flew. Barnett got beside Henry with one lap to go, but Henry closed the low line off in the final lap to pick up his first win of the year, and become the eleventh winner in fourteen races run this year. Ralston, Barnett, and Lester Hudson won the heats.
The 20-lap Prontock Beer Distributors street stocks feature was next on the racing surface with Dustin Michuck and Little leading the way. After a complete restart, Little took the lead with Michuck and Dan Gill keeping things close. Little stretched his lead out and held it through the midway mark with Gill, Dan Smeal, Michuck, and Ray Billotte rounding out the top five. Little continued to lead as Gill and Smeal hooked up in a great side by side battle for second. Two minor cautions slowed the late stages of the race, but it wasn’t enough to slow Little as he went on to claim his third win of the year. Little, Michuck, and Gill copped the heat race wins. John Brady and McMillen sat on the front row of the 25-lap Brookville Wood Products limited late model feature. After a complete restart, McMillen took the early lead with Billy Dickson in close tow. A number of minor cautions slowed the race with McMillen still holding the lead. The leaders started to work in lapped traffic with Dickson taking advantage as McMillen got caught behind one of the lapped cars, giving Dickson the lead on lap 13. McMillen fought his way back as he retook the lead on the outside on lap 16. Lap 20 saw Dickson make contact with McMillen in turn two. McMillen was able to continue while Dickson had to go to the rear of the field after spinning out. McMillen’s next challenge came from Dave Shagla, Jr. Shagla worked his way under McMillen on lap 21 for the lead. McMillen wouldn’t be denied as he drove hard on the outside of turn four and made the pass for the lead on lap 24. McMillen led the final circuit and went on to score his third win of the year. Luke Hoffner, Rodney Phillips, and Eric Moore won the heats.
Kevin Chase and Mike Donahue led the field of Miller Brothers Furniture/By The Room Furniture pure stocks trackside for their 15-lap feature. Donahue took the early lead, and stretched it out as Bainey, Kyle Lindenmuth, and Chase battled for second. Donahue continued to lead midway with Bainey, Lindenmuth, Gary Hepler, and Rob Molnar keeping things close. Late in the race, Donahue got caught behind a lapped car giving Bainey room to make the pass for the lead. Donahue took one last shot at the win, but drove the car too hard in turn four, looping it around, and letting Bainey go on for his fifth win of the year. Bainey and Donahue won the heats.
Shawn Fedder and Kevin Thomas led a full field of front wheel drive four-cylinders trackside for their 12-lap main. Fedder grabbed the early lead with Smith applying heavy pressure. Smith continued to work the inside line, and made the pass for the lead on lap 4. Smith added to his lead at the midway mark with Fedder, Todd English, Thomas, and Doug Surra trying to close the gap. Smith maintained his lead as English and Fedder battled side by side for second. Smith was smooth as he went on to take his fourth checkered flag of the year. Fedder, Thomas, Smith, and Terry Borden won the heats while Scott Buffington claimed the consy.
