KANE – Showcasing its scoring balance with five players in double figures, Kane turned back Curwensville 84-66 Friday night in Allegheny Mountain League boys basketball action.
The Wolves were unable to put the Golden Tide away until the fourth quarter, however.
After the first quarter ended in an 18-18 standoff, Kane opened a 40-32 lead at halftime. The Wolves added only one point to the margin in the third period before pulling away in the final eight minutes.
Kane, boasting the entire 2007 District 9 Class AA championship team\’s starting lineup, was led by Zach Anderson\’s 222 points, including four three-pointers. John Bizzak was close behind with 18, followed by Sean Perry with 11 and Kenny Kane and Cory Waigand with 11 apiece.
Curwensville\’s David Kalgren claimed game honors with 23 points, while Sam Gardner and Joey Palmer contributed 15 and 13, respectively.
The Golden Tide is 3-7 with a 1-3 record in the AML South Division. The Wolves, ranked 10th overall and second in Class AA in the RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com District 9 rankings, are 7-4 with a 2-1 mark in the AML North.
Curwensville, 1-2 in the Moshannon Valley League, has three games next week, an MVL road test against Moshannon Valley (2-7, 1-2) Monday at Amesville and AML tests at home against Ridgway (1-11, 0-4) Wednesday and at Sheffield (4-7, 1-2) Friday.
