A man is in hospital after he barricaded himself inside a Colorado police headquarters late Friday — allegedly armed with a knife and a gun.
The man walked into the lobby of the Arvada Police Department and made suicidal comments, authorities said.
A negotiator and a SWAT team arrived at the scene and worked to coax him out, said police spokeswoman Jill McGranahan. Authorities used flash bangs to startle him so they can disarm him.
The situation was contained to the police station and there was no risk to the surrounding communities, she said.
The lobby is separate from the building, and provides no access to the rest of the police department.
During the incident, the man was alone in the building. There were no prisoners in the holding cells, authorities said.
Arvada is a suburb of Denver.
