CASD Nets $94,657 from School Content Auctions
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District netted $94,657.61 from the school content auctions at the former Clearfield Middle School and the Centre Elementary School, according to Superintendent Terry Struble.
Thorp Pleads Guilty to DUI with Child in his Vehicle
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child for driving under the influence with his child in his vehicle.
Jeffrey Lee Thorp, 46, an inmate of the jail, also pleaded guilty to DUI, escape and driving under suspension-DUI related.
Penn Highlands’ Moshannon Valley Site Nears Completion
PHILIPSBURG – Residents of the Moshannon Valley anxiously await the opening of a new Penn Highlands facility that will serve Philipsburg and surrounding municipalities in the Moshannon Valley.
Clearfield School Board Approves New Guidelines for Student Academic Recognition
CLEARFIELD – After being prompted by parents and students at the end of the 2015 academic year, the Clearfield school board implemented a set of new guidelines for determining Student Academic Recognition at the Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School during Monday night’s meeting.
Protesters Gather in an Effort to Save Hospital
CLEARFIELD – A small but determined group gathered Monday afternoon to try to save their local hospital.
Citizens of Clearfield have been doing what they can to get the attention of officials and board members of the hospital, now known as Penn Highlands Clearfield, since Penn Highlands started making major changes to the hospital shortly after taking over.
Makinen Sentenced for Breaking into Ex-girlfriend’s Home
CLEARFIELD – A man accused of breaking into the home of an ex-girlfriend pleaded guilty during plea and sentencing court.
Michael Jacob Makinen, 33, 522 W. Weber Ave., DuBois, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and assault before Judge Paul E. Cherry and was sentenced to 60 days to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation. He must complete anger management counseling and pay $350 plus costs.
DA: 15 Drug Suspects Charged in “Operation Leaf Rake”
CLEARFIELD – Fifteen people are facing charges for allegedly being involved with dealing drugs in Clearfield County, announced District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the Clearfield 911 Center.
Schaffer Accused of Selling Drugs to Undercover Informants
DUBOIS – A Luthersburg man is accused of selling drugs to undercover officers.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office Sept. 24, Brian Lee Schaffer, 44, 173 Luthersburg/Rockton Rd.,. P.O. Box 9, Luthersburg, Pa., is charged by the Punxsutawney-based state police with delivery of a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility and possession of a controlled substance.
Clearfield School Board Oks Settlement
CLEARFIELD – On Monday night, the Clearfield school board approved a settlement agreement with Konchan Inc. in regards to the Girard-Goshen Elementary School.
ER Patient Accused of Accosting Nurse
DUBOIS – A DuBois woman is accused of accosting a nurse during a visit to the Emergency Room.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office Sept. 20, Julie L. Whetsell, 24, 281 Kilmer Rd., DuBois, is charged with assault and harassment.
Gov. Wolf’s Full Tax Proposal to be Voted in House and Senate
HARRISBURG – In an effort to move the state budget talks past the current stalemate, House and Senate Republican leaders today announced a vote on Gov. Tom Wolf’s full and latest tax package proposal will take place in the House on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Man Accused of Setting Trailer on Fire in Domestic Incident Waives Charges
CLEARFIELD – A man accused of throwing a bowl of spaghetti at his girlfriend during a domestic disturbance and then setting fire to their trailer waived the charges to court at his preliminary hearing Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
