CLEARFIELD – A man accused of breaking into the home of an ex-girlfriend pleaded guilty during plea and sentencing court.
Michael Jacob Makinen, 33, 522 W. Weber Ave., DuBois, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and assault before Judge Paul E. Cherry and was sentenced to 60 days to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation. He must complete anger management counseling and pay $350 plus costs.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on July 9 at 2:49 a.m. police were called to a Clinton Avenue residence for a burglary report. When they arrived Makinen was standing on the front porch. He told the officers he was locked out of the residence by his girlfriend and her daughters. While speaking with him, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. Makinen also had bloodshot eyes and delayed motor coordination.
One of the victims told police Makinen moved out of the residence on July 6 and his name had been removed from the lease. She said she woke up because she heard her mother screaming. When she came around the corner to see what was going on, she witnessed Makinen standing in front of her mother and it appeared he had entered through the window.
The other victim told police she was asleep when she woke to see Makinen coming through the window. He was yelling at her and saying things about her deceased daughter.
He shoved her and called her names. She screamed for help and told him he was not allowed to be in the residence. He replied that he could be in the house and there was nothing anyone could do about it.
Another witness at the scene confirmed the victims’ stories.
