A Palestinian teenager shot by Israeli soldiers at a military checkpoint has died, her family told CNN.
Israel Defense Forces said the teenager was shot Tuesday morning after trying to stab an Israeli soldier. “Forces responded with fire at the attacker & identified hit,” the IDF said.
According to the Palestinian Authority-controlled WAFA news agency, witnesses said Israeli soldiers at the Container checkpoint in central Hebron on the West Bank opened fire on the teen while she was crossing the turnstile.
WAFA said Israeli soldiers prevented a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance from approaching the wounded woman and left her lying on the ground 30 minutes until an ambulance to the Israeli settlement of Kiryat Arba transported her.
She was identified as Hadil al-Hashlamoun, 17 or 18 years old, WAFA said, citing the International Middle East Media Center, which talked to her father. The father said she was a first-year student at Hebron University.
The media center said the father is Dr. Salaheddin Hashlamon, head of the anesthesia department of the Al-Ahli Hospital in Hebron and the hospital’s former director, WAFA reported.
No Israeli soldiers were injured, WAFA said.
Israeli forces killed a Palestinian youth Tuesday near the village of Kharsa to the south of Hebron, WAFA reported.
