COMMODORE — Clearfield defeated Penns Manor 63-49 while Curwensville lost to Purchase Line 67-57 in overtime in the opening round of the Purchase Line Lions Club Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Wednesday night.
The Bisons (5-3) outscored the Comets (1-9) in every period and cashed 31 of 47 trips to the free throw line. They will play Purchase Line (2-7) in the championship game Thursday night at 8:00.
Four Bisons scored in double figures, topped by Mike Johnson\’s 16 points. John Lhota had 12, including nine free throws, while James Zimmerman and Todd Hyrn added 10 apiece.
A 6-0 run gave coach Forrest Campman\’s Bisons a 9-8 lead late in the first quarter and they took a 13-10 advantage into the second period, when they scored 23 points for a double-digit lead they maintained throughout the second half.
The consolation game between Curwensville (4-3) and Penns Manor will start at 6:30 Thursday evening.
