Alice Jane Benton, 80, of Karthaus died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015 at the Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte.
Born April 19, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Hilary A. and Stella Moore Picard.
Mrs. Benton was a homemaker. She had attended the Cooper Township High School.
She was a member of the Karthaus Fire Company Auxiliary, the Quehanna Lions Club, and the Frenchville VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She loved children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was married to Charles M. Benton on Oct. 4, 1952 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Frenchville. He survives in Karthaus.
Mrs. Benton is survived by five daughters, Annette Salvanish and her husband, Paul of Clarence, Christine Stover and her husband, Richard of Muncy, Beverly Lidgett of Morrisdale, Yvonne Pickering and her husband, Matthew of Bellefonte and Victoria Shimmel of Newport, NC; two sons, Terrance Benton and his wife, Jackie of Pine Glen and Anthony Benton of Karthaus; and by her beloved cat, Abby.
She is survived by two sisters, Patricia Barger and her husband, Harold and Sandra Picard, both of Frenchville, and one brother, William Picard and his wife, Darlene of Morrisdale. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Gregory, Wendy, Crystal, Anna, Adam, Rosanne, Sara, Tyler, Travis, Tara, Branden and Stephanie and 15 great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Wyatt, Alan, Caroline, Connor, Dale, Chase, Madison, Camryn, Emma, Alexis, Reese, Wesley and Aryanna.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Hilary Jr. and Robert Picard; one sister, Marjorie Mayhew; and one son-in-law, Wesley Lidgett Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale, with Father Philip J. Billotte officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery, Karthaus.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the funeral home.
