State College — The State College Girl’s and Boy’s Swimming and Diving team swept Clearfield on Wednesday night in dual meet competition.
The State College girls defeated the Bisons 129-57, while the boys won by a 106-80 margin.
\”Actually, we had some perform extremely well to others who struggled and had an extremely rough night,\” said head coach Jackie Morrison of her team’s performance. \”And, I mean extreme because we had some excellent performances. It was just an up and down night for us.\”
Lady Bison diver Jennifer Williams finished first in the one meter. Williams was the Clearfield girl’s lone winner on the night.
Turning in a second place finish was Marisa Howell in the Open 100 Free. Howell also took third in the Open 50 Free.
In the pool, Chelsey Dufour had a pair of third place finishes in the Open 200 Freestyle and the Open 100 Backstroke.
Other third place winners were Lady Bison Shelbie King (Open 100 Fly), Carolyn Shurer (Open 500 Free) and Allison White (Open 100 Breaststroke).
In team events, the Clearfield girls finished second in the Open 200 Medley, while taking third in both the Open 200 and 400 Free.
State College swept Clearfield in the Open 200 I.M.
\”The girls really struggled tonight,\” said Morrison. \”I’m not sure if it was the lack of focus, or if the idea of swimming an elite team, a couple levels above us, that got to them. The girls just struggled and it was a rough night for them.\”
In the boy’s dual, Shay Flanagan was a double winner for the Bison in both the Open 200 and 500 Free.
\”Shay Flanagan swam very well and really held his own,\” said Morrison. \”He enjoys competition and being pushed. So, this was really good for him.\”
Also, winning events were Brandon Boyer in the Open 100 Backstroke, Mark Krchnak in the Open 100 Breaststroke and Bison diver Tyler Shaw in the one meter.
Bison Logan Shirey posted a pair of second place finishes in the Open 50 Free and Open 100 Fly.
