ST. MARYS — DuBois Central Catholic ended reigning PIAA Class A champion Elk County Catholic\’s winning streak at 49 games with a 69-68 schoolboy basketball stunner before an overflow crowd in the Crusaders\’ gym Friday night.
Chris Wulderk, who played at Moshannon Valley last season, scored the winning basket from close range with 2.8 seconds left to halt three other long winning streaks by ECC.
The Crusaders had won 48 games in a row against District 9 opponents, 36 in a row against Allegheny Mountain League foes and 37 in a row at home. Their last loss was to Kennedy Catholic in the 2005 PIAA Class A quarterfinals.
DuBois Central, 9-0 in the AML South and 18-1 overall, hit 30 of 51 shots with Wulderk scoring 17 points, Cody Wilson 16 and former Clearfield resident Christian Spilman 10.
Jesse Bosnik, whose desperation shot at the buzzer hit the rim, poured in 30 points for the Crusaders, who are 16-1 with a 6-1 AML North record.
The Cardinals led 20-18 after one quarter and 37-35 at the half. The game was tied at 54 going to the final period.

JOHNSONBURG — Calvin Grumley of Johnsonburg scored 28 points in an 82-37 Allegheny Mountain League victory over Ridgway Friday night to become only the third 2,000-point scorer in District 9 boys basketball history.
The 5-10 senior guard, averaging 24.6 points a game for the 11-7 Rams this season, has a total of 2,013.
Ahead of him are Garrett Heath (Keystone) with 2,215 and Brandon Housler (Cameron County) with 2,084.

BRADFORD — Two of the longest basketball winning streaks in District 9 history were snapped Friday night when Bradford upset Punxsutawney 31-25 in a District 9 League girls game.
The Lady Chucks had won 90 consecutive games against D-9 opponents and 67 consecutive games in the league.
Their last loss to a district rival was 55-27 to Redbank Valley on Feb. 19, 2001, 10 days after they fell to St. Marys 58-37 for their last league setback.
Shelly Fuhrman led the Lady Owls with 15 points and Whitney Cline added 10, leaving her 11 points away from 1,000 for her career.
