CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man was sentenced to state prison for giving alcohol to pre-teen girls and asking them for sexual favors.
Richard Stephen English, 45, who is an inmate of state prison, pleaded guilty to three counts of corruption of minors, three counts of indecent exposure and five counts of selling/furnishing liquor to minors before Judge Paul E. Cherry.
English was sentenced to serve a consecutive period of 18 months to five years in state prison. He was fined $5,006 plus costs.
The charges stem from incidents that occurred in Clearfield in July of 2014.
One of the victim’s mothers addressed the court. To English she said “I want you to know how much you hurt her.” She went on to say he had taken years from her daughter’s life. She is now harassed by the other kids in school and “it’s heartbreaking” to see the fear in her eyes, the victim’s mother said.
English apologized to the court saying he was “sorry for all my wrongful acts.”
According to the affidavit of probable cause, two women contacted police regarding English attempting to sexually assault their daughters. Both women and their daughters were then interviewed regarding the allegations.
The first victim, an 11-year-old female said she was sleeping over at a borough residence. English, who was also there, offered to give the victim and her two friends cigarettes. Later this victim went into the bathroom and discovered English was already in there.
She apologized and tried to leave but he told her to stay. He grabbed her hand and tried to place it on his crotch. She pulled it away, but he tried it again. She was again able to pull her hand away and get out of the room.
On the second night she stayed at the residence, English offered her and the other two girls Smirnoff Blueberry Lemonade. They did drink some of it, she said.
The second victim, a 12-year-old girl told police a similar story. Both said that the third girl’s mother, who was at the home, was drunk and passed out on the couch during these events.
On the first night, they stayed at the home, the second victim said she went into a bedroom where English asked her for a “hickey.” When she refused, he asked her if the other girl would do it.
As he was speaking to her, he was playing with himself, she said. He then tried to put his hand up her shirt. She also stated that he played with himself in front of the three girls and asked them to touch him.
During the second evening, English offered this girl $20 if she would hug and kiss him. Then he offered her $50 in exchange for showing him a “good time” sexually.
The second victim said that she and the third victim watched porn at this residence on several occasions after English showed them, which channel to watch.
When he was questioned English stated that nothing happened. He said the girls walked in on him watching a porn movie but he covered himself with a blanket. He claimed they watch porn all the time. When asked why he was letting the young girls watch porn, he stated that he tried to stop it but nothing worked.
