CLEARFIELD – Lock Haven University’s Clearfield campus is gearing up to welcome a new group of students for the fall 2015 semester.
Approximately 100 incoming freshman and transfer students will begin or continue their academic studies at LHU Clearfield when classes begin on Aug. 24.
“The beginning of fall semester is the best time of the academic year. There is always a fresh sense of excitement and enthusiasm,” said Bill Curley, director at LHU Clearfield.
New student orientation was held on Aug. 13. The program was designed to help attendees meet other new students, connect with current LHU students who will be able to answer questions about college, explore ways to get involved in campus activities, preview important first-year college issues, learn about campus life from current LHU students, become familiar with LHU Clearfield and gain confidence about starting college in the fall.
“Orientation is critical for all incoming students. We provide a lot of important information that helps to move our students in the right direction,” said Curley.
LHU Clearfield’s incoming class is comprised of students from most area high schools, including Clearfield, Curwensville, West Branch, Moshannon Valley, DuBois, Bald Eagle Area, State College, and Punxsutawney, among others. They are enrolled in a wide range of programs of study including nursing, criminal justice, health sciences, business administration, healthcare professions, and exploratory studies.
Again this fall, LHU Clearfield freshman are required to complete a common reading. This year’s book is Garbology: Our Dirty Love Affair with Trash by Pulitzer Prize-Winning author Edward Humes. It provides an in-depth look at the trash produced by Americans and its impact on society. The book will be used in multiple classes and out-of-class programming will be offered to explore this serious issue.
