Clayton “Scrape” B. Woodring, 88 of Clearfield, passed away on March 15 at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born March 20, 1921 in Clearfield, he was the son of Alton C. and Alma (Cornelius) Woodring.
He was a graduate of Clearfield Area High School and was a member of the 1939 undefeated Bison Football Team.
Mr. Woodring had been employed by Harbison Walker Refractories, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the Kerr Addition United Methodist Church.
Mr. Woodring was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II.
He is survived by two sons: Melvin D. Woodring and his wife Barbara of Blairsville, PA and David L. Woodring and his wife Glenna of Clearfield; five grandchildren: Jeffrey Woodring and his wife Mary and Daniel Woodring all of Blairsville, Chad Woodring and his wife Stephanie of Tera Haute, IN, Dr. Tina Woodring Silver, M.D. and her husband David of Frederick, MD and Stacey Woodring Kostelnik and her husband Paul of Ambridge, PA, four great grandchildren:Dustin Silver, Molly Silver, Donovan Silver and Chase Kostelnik.
Mr. Woodring is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Vivian L. “Skip” Woodring, whom he married on Aug. 30, 1941 and who died on Oct. 21, 2000; a grandson, Chris Allen Woodring and a sister, Juanita Chnupa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E. Locust Street, Clearfield, PA, with Rev. Virginia Eminhizer officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on March 19 from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of services.
