Richard D. ‘Smiley’ Greene, 87, of Woodland died Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield. He was born Oct. 26, 1927, a son of the late Albert and Alice (Knepp) Green.
He owned and operated Richard Greene Contracting and Richard Greene Trucking.
Mr. Greene also operated an inspection station and inspected many local people’s vehicles. He drove racecars as a hobby. Mr. Greene enjoyed spending the winters in Florida with his wife.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Norma (Turner) Greene, to whom he was wed Feb. 21, 1952.
Mr. Greene is also survived by a daughter, Diana Leigey and her husband, Larry of Woodland; two granddaughters, Angela Thompson and her husband, John of Woodland and Jessica English and her husband, Matt of Morrisdale; two great-granddaughters, Madisyn and Makenzie Thompson; and two sisters, Donna Smeal of Woodland and Dorothy Loddo of Curwensville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Lynn Greene; a great-grandson, Alex Thompson; a sister, Pauline Welker; and two brothers, Darrell and Reese Green.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with Sam Maines officiating. Burial will follow in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.
Military honors will be accorded at cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
