HARRISBURG – Two pieces of legislation authored by state Rep. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield/Cambria) that would honor a pair of notable Clearfield County citizens have been signed into law.
“These two men did a great deal for our community and it is an honor to be able to keep the memory of them alive for future generations,” Sankey said.
House Bill 817, which will rename the state Route 3005 bridge over the Susquehanna River’s west branch in Greenwood Township as the First Lt. Wendell Elbert Ross Memorial Bridge, has been signed into law as part of Act 29 of 2015.
“I’d need to thank Mr. A. Kline Redden of Mahaffey, a friend of Lt. Ross, for giving me the idea for this legislation,” said Sankey.
“Lt. Ross grew up in Lumber City and was fatally wounded in 1944 while serving our country during World War II. He was a member of Company B, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.”
House Bill 870, which will designate Route 153 in Boggs Township as the Austin M. Harrier Memorial Highway, was signed into law as part of Act 21 of 2015.
“Harrier is one of my predecessors in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives,” Sankey added. “He served the 74th Legislative District from 1962-74 and was instrumental in securing funding for the construction of State Route 153.”
