A stadium housing peacekeepers and two hotels in Somalia’s capital were attacked Friday in a coordinated plot by Al-Shabaab militants, intelligence and security officials told CNN.
An Al-Shabaab spokesperson told CNN that the Islamic terrorist group was behind the attacks, and that “many” people were killed as a result.
Police say six civilians were killed, along with five of the attackers.
The attacks struck Mogadishu simultaneously, the intelligence and security officials told CNN.
Mogadishu Stadium, which houses a Ugandan contingent of African Union peacekeepers, suffered a mortar attack, the officials said. No one was killed in the attack.
Two hotels — Hotel Weheliye and Hotel Siyad — were targeted by car bombs, the officials said. It was unknown if there were any deaths.
Hotel Siyad is located near the presidential palace.
