CLEARFIELD – Bids for street paving in Clearfield Borough came in lower than expected for one company.
At Thursday’s meeting, the Clearfield Borough Council opened bids for paving from three different contractors. New Enterprise came in with the lowest bid in the amount of $249,305.65. The borough also received bids from Glenn O. Hawbaker in the amount of $348,499.10 and from HRI Inc., in the amount of $346,927.
While a bid coming in under budget can be a good thing, members of the council were concerned because of such a large difference between the bid from New Enterprise and the other contractors. The council voted to accept the bid, but will have the borough’s engineer review the bids to ensure there are no discrepancies.
Also at the meeting, Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack reminded residents not to blow their grass clippings out onto the roadways. Mack said the grass has been collecting in the borough’s storm drains. He said this is particularly problematic during the heavy rainstorms the borough has been experiencing. Mack said that the borough is going to be out enforcing the ordinance prohibiting people from mowing grass onto the streets.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said the street crew has been particularly busy during the past week taking care of problems caused by the recent storms. She said the West Side area seemed to have the brunt of the issues. Stott said the crew is hoping to get back to their regular maintenance soon, providing the storms hold off.
In other business, the council voted to approve:
- Road closures for the Bloom and Berry Bash June 26-27.
- Appointing Susan Reed, John Naddeo and Kylie Ogden to the Zoning Hearing Board.
