Josephine A. Galio, 91, of Clearfield died Sunday, May 31, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 27, 1923, a daughter of the late James and Sarafina (Unch) Valenza.
Mrs. Galio retired from McGregor’s Sportswear after being employed there for nearly 40 years.
She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield. She was also a member of the former Martha Washington Lodge.
She is survived by her two children, Donald A. Galio and his wife, Mae of Gaithersburg, Md., and Sara Lynn Mayersky and her husband, John of Clearfield.
She is survived by two grandsons, Michael Mayersky and his wife, Shannon of Woodland and David Mayersky and his fiancée, Julie Clarke and her son, Julian of Clearfield and three great-grandchildren, Dominic and Madelyne Mayersky and Sophia Mayersky.
She is also survived by three sisters, Teresa Scarborough of Huntsville, Ala., Florence Morris and her husband, Robert of Augusta, Ga., and Sara Catalano and her husband, Victor of Clearfield and a brother, James Valenza of Hanover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic B. ‘Dom’ Galio on March 8, 2002 and to whom she was wed May 13, 1944 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield.
She was also preceded in death by granddaughter, Jennifer Galio; a sister, Frances Evans; and three brothers, Charles, Joseph P. and Jack J. Valenza.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Father John Miller as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield.
At the funeral home Wednesday, a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 1:45 p.m. and the Rosary will be recited at 5:45 p.m.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield, or the Clearfield Foundation for Health – Hospice, P.O. Box 992, Clearfield.
